Youssef Chahine

 He was a world-renowned Egyptian director who studied in Hollywood and was known for his personal and bold style in addressing issues of identity, politics, and sexuality. He was nominated for an Oscar and received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Cannes Film Festival (1997). Among his most notable works, which blended realism and epic scope, are Bab Al-Hadid, Al-Ard, and Al Nasser Salah al-Din.
