I Love Cinema

Egypt | Arabic | Color | 130 min

Adly, a Coptic Christian school employee, is devout to the point of fanaticism, even in his relationship with his wife, Naemat, and their two children, Naim and Ne‘ma, whom he treats with great harshness, especially his son, who loves cinema. Adly, considering it one of the gravest sins, forbids him from going, but clever young Naim exploits his parents’ mistakes to persuade them to take him to the movies.

Osama Fawzy

Osama Fawzy (1961–2019) was an influential Egyptian filmmaker known for tackling bold social and moral themes with psychological depth. A graduate of the Higher Institute of Cinema in Cairo, he began as an assistant director to Youssef Chahine before debuting with Afarit el-Asfalt (Asphalt Demons, 1995), which won international acclaim. His films Gannet al-Shayateen (The Demons’ Paradise, 1999) and Baheb el-Cima (I Love Cinema, 2004) explored taboos around religion, sexuality, and identity, establishing Fawzy as a daring and essential voice in contemporary Egyptian cinema.
