The Guest
In 2021, the Poland-Belarus border became a forbidden three-kilometer zone, where refugees were brutally trapped in a political game. Belarus promised free passage to the EU, but in Poland they faced pushbacks, forcing them back across the border. Once returned to Belarus, they were driven again toward Poland—a horrific stalemate in treacherous marshes. Maciek lives with his family on the Polish side and has taken in an exhausted Syrian refugee, Alhyder. After regaining his strength, Alhyder faces the difficult question: what now? Where can he go without endangering himself or Maciek?
