Introduction
In its 40th edition, the Cairo International Film Festival will host the 5th edition of the Cairo Film
Connection (CFC), the festival’s co-production platform, taking place November 26-28.
CFC will invite over 50 experienced international producers, film financiers and film distributors
as well as representatives from funding bodies, sales agents and TV channels to come together
to initiate international co-productions and partnerships with films from the Arab world.
A maximum of 15 projects will be selected and invited to attend CFC.
CFC is a space for Arab filmmakers to initiate connections and receive the support they need o
bring their films to completion. In addition, a jury comprised of prominent film professionals will
select projects to receive cash and in-kind awards as presented by CFC valuable partners.

Eligibility
Your project must meet ALL of the following conditions to be eligible to submit to CFC
 The project is directed by a filmmaker of Arab nationality or origin
 The project is a work of feature length fiction or non- fiction
The project is in development or post- production phase
 The director of the project has directed a minimum of 1 film whether short of feature
length film

Selection Criteria
CFC committee of film professionals will select up to 15 projects that:
Show creativity and innovation in topics, narrative structure, and/or techniques
Have a passionate and dedicated filmmaker/producer team
Have artistic, and not just commercial, value and viability
Have international distribution potential in festival circuits or in cinemas

How to Apply
You must complete ALL mandatory fields as indicated in the online Application and attach all
required documents.
The deadline for submissions is September 14, 2018 (11:59 pm Cairo Local Time).
Projects in Development Phase Required Information and Documents
Your submission for FICTION feature length project MUST include ALL of the following
materials in English.
– Synopsis (maximum 500 words)
– Treatment (maximum 10-12 pages)
– Director’s Statement (maximum 1-2 pages)

– Script (in Arabic or English) **If your project is selected to attend CFC you must ensure
that your script is in English and ready to be shared with non- Arabic speakers industry
professionals and jury members 2 weeks prior to the start date of CFC in November.
– Bio-filmography of the director
– Production company profile (if available)
– Budget Top Sheet (in USD)
– Financial Plan (in USD)
– Project Timeline and expected Date of Completion
– Copies of financial agreements and/or letters of intent from financing partners (if
available)
– Copies of Co-production Agreements (if available)
– Online Samples of Previous Works
Your submission for NON- FICTION feature length project MUST include ALL of the following
materials in English.
– Treatment (maximum 10-12 pages)
– 3-5 minute trailer (if available).
– Director’s Statement (maximum 1-2 pages)
– Bio-filmography of the director
– Production Company Profile (if available)
– Budget Top Sheet (in USD)
– Financial Plan (in USD)
– Project Timeline and expected Date of Completion
– Copies of financial agreements and/or letters of intent from financing partners (if
available)
– Copies of Co-production Agreements (if available)
– Online Samples of Previous Works

Projects in Post-Production Phase Required Information and Documents
Your submission for a fiction or non- fiction feature length project MUST include ALL of the
following materials in English.

– Synopsis (maximum 500 words)
– Treatment (maximum 10-12 pages)
– Director’s Statement (maximum 1-2 pages)
– Minimum of 30-minute edited sample scenes with English subtitles
– Bio-filmography of the director
– Production Company Profile (if available)
– Post-production Budget (in USD)
– Project Timeline and expected Date of Completion
– Copies of financial agreements and/or letters of intent from financing partners (if
available)
– Copies of Co-production Agreements (if available)
– Online Samples of Previous Works

ONLY PROJECTS SUBMITTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE RULES WILL BE
ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED
Selection
The final selection will be made by October 7, 2018, and selected filmmakers will be contacted
by the CFC team.
Being selected for the CFC entitles the project team of two people (producer and director) to:
– Full festival accreditation
– Travel and accommodation for the 3 days of the CFC—unless one of the applicants
resides in Cairo
– Invitation to gala events and parties
– Schedule of meetings and networking opportunities
– Project promotion through our catalogue, website, and press releases
– Eligibility to win CFC awards as presents by CFC partners

The selected project team is required to:
– Commit to attending the 3 days of CFC in order to be eligible for the CFC awards.
– Provide an up-to-date film dossier and any kind of supporting materials they wish to
use in their meetings.
– Include the following line and CIFF Logo in the credit role, when their film is
completed: “Presented at the Cairo Film Connection, CIFF 2018” (Logos and strap line will be provided by the CFC team separately to include in the credit sequence of the finished film.)
– Include the festival and partner award logos in the final credits of the film (in case the film receives CFC award(s).)
